Biggest Week for a Soundtrack Since 2015: ‘A Star Is Born’

A Star Is Born released on October 5th starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga is a story about a seasoned musician named Jackson Maine who falls in love with a struggling artist named Ally. She almost gave up on her dream to be a famous recording artist until Jackson helped her into the spotlight.

This week they celebrating a chart-top album. The soundtrack to “A Star Is Born,” is No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This is Lady Gaga’s fifth No.1 album this decade after Born This Way, Artpop, Joanne and Cheek to Cheek. The album that was released by Interscope (Ally’s label in the movie and Lady Gaga’s actual record label in real life) has sold a total of 231,000 units–grossing about $28 million in its second week with an estimated box-office total of $94.2 million.

Billboard stated that “A Star Is Born lands the biggest overall week for a soundtrack in more than three-and-a-half years. The last soundtrack to score a larger week in total units was the Fifty Shades of Grey album, which debuted at No. 2 on the list dated Feb. 28, 2015 with 258,000 units earned.”

Interscope has been leading the way in movie soundtracks this year since Black Panther: The Album was also released by them and debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
